Both the 2018 and 2019 Camaro are part of the sixth generation of this iconic American muscle car. For the new model year, however, Chevy has given the Camaro a refreshed look and feel they describe as "leaner and meaner." Aside from tech updates, the redesign is purely cosmetic. Here's what you need to know about how the two models compare if you're shopping for a new Camaro.

Exterior Appearance

Updates to the look of the 2019 Camaro include:

  • • Large upper grille inspired by the first-generation Camaro
  • • Redesigned headlights with LED accents that extend to the grille
  • • Reshaped hood and front bumper
  • • Rounded tail lights
  • • More visual distinction between trim levels

The 2018 Camaro has, in contrast:

  • • Smaller front grille
  • • Classic "hockey stick" taillights
  • • Similar-looking trim levels

Most of the visual changes between the 2018 and 2019 Camaro models are relegated to the front end. The two sports cars look quite similar when viewed in profile.

Tech updates for the 2019 Chevy Camaro include:

  • • Automatic software updates
  • • Standard forward collision warning
  • • Digital high-definition rear view camera
  • • Upgraded performance data recorder system

These build on the features of the 2018 Camaro, which include:

  • • Standard 7-inch and available 8-inch touchscreen
  • • Standard smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • • Standard OnStar with 4G LTE and a Wi-Fi hot spot
  • • Two USB ports
  • • Standard Teen Driver functionality

The Camaro gets high marks for its impressive array of standard tech in both the 2018 and 2019 models. This vehicle also has seating for up to four and LATCH connectors for up to two child safety seats.

The Camaro Turbo 1LE is a new performance variant for 2019. It features:

  • • Six-speed manual transmission
  • • Suspension and brake upgrades
  • • Additional drive selector modes (Track and Competition)

Both model years share the same powertrain options, including:

  • • Standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine providing 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque
  • • Available V6 providing 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque
  • • Available V8 providing 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque
  • • Available supercharged V8 providing an incredible 650 hp and 650 pound-feet of torque

The latter engine offers the blistering performance that has made the Camaro a legend, including a reported zero-to-60 time of just 3.5 seconds. It comes with either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. Other engines come with either a six-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. All models come with rear-wheel drive and can be upgraded with high-performance brakes and Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
