A big SUV with a truck-based build, the Chevrolet Suburban has been pleasing owners for many years. This vehicle has to compromise a bit at the gas pump, and it's certainly not nimble, but it boasts one of the roomiest cabins of any passenger vehicle, and it's loaded with convenience features. Perfect for long-haul trips, the Suburban is also great for towing a boat or other trailered item.

For 2018, the Suburban doesn't get much of a refreshing, but most buyers won't mind. The outgoing 2017 model was stocked to the roof with standard and optional equipment, so there wasn't much need to reorganize the trim levels or package options. If a nine-passenger SUV sounds like a good idea, the 2018 Chevrolet Suburban will more than satisfy.

The standard engine on the 2018 Chevrolet Suburban is a 5.3L V8 rated at 355 horsepower. Six-speed automatic transmission gets the vehicle up to freeway speed with ease. This transmission is also manually shiftable, something that drivers really appreciate. The Suburban comes with a concealed receiver hitch, and towing capability is around 8,400 pounds. Even though it's a heavy vehicle at nearly 5,900 pounds, acceleration is more than acceptable, with the Suburban going from a full stop to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds. A locking differential is standard, so the Suburban is no slouch when it comes to off-road travel.

Interior and Features

The base LS trim is nicely appointed on the inside. Standard features include air conditioning, seating for eight, power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 110V power outlet. A front-row three-passenger bench seat is optional. Stepping up to the LT trim, one gets leather upholstery, heated front bucket seats, driver memory functions, and a premium audio system. The top-level Premier trim comes with a sunroof, a rear entertainment system, ventilated front seats, and a wireless charging pad. Chevy's MyLink infotainment system is standard across the trim lineup, and this includes an 8-inch screen display, Bluetooth, smartphone integration, and five USB ports. All in all, the Suburban is well-equipped to satisfy the family on those cross-country trips, and the family is treated to one of the most spacious interiors of any SUV on the market.

All 2018 Chevrolet Suburban versions come with stability and traction control, airbags in the front and front-side, and side-curtain bags that run the full length of the rear seating area. A rearview camera is also standard across the trim lineup. The Enhanced Driver Alert package is optional and includes forward collision alert with slow-speed braking, automatic high beams, power-adjustable pedals, and lane-keeping assist.
